Job Description Job Summary The Lecturer plays a central role in delivering high quality, discipline specific education in Taxation and Accounting within a distance learning environment. The incumbent is responsible for teaching, assessment, academic support, and the continuous improvement of learning material in alignment with institutional academic standards and national regulatory frameworks.

The role requires the design, development, and facilitation of learning material appropriate for NQF Level 5,6 and 7, ensuring that content reflects current South African tax legislation, accounting standards, and sound academic design suitable for distance learning students.

The Lecturer contributes to academic quality assurance processes, assessment integrity, curriculum development, and student success while fostering academic integrity and professional excellence.

Main Purpose of the Job The Lecturer is central to the delivery of high-quality education within their designated field, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, regulatory standards, and industry relevance. The role focuses on academic instruction, curriculum delivery, student support, and continuous enhancement of teaching and learning practices.

Key responsibilities include delivering engaging and impactful teaching, contributing to the design and review of curricula, and ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The incumbent will play an active role in supporting students' academic and professional development and may collaborate with part-time lecturing staff to ensure consistency in the learning experience.

By fostering academic excellence and a commitment to student success, the role contributes meaningfully to the institution's vision of providing transformative, outcomes-based education.

Key Responsibilities 1. Teaching, Learning, Academic Support, and Content Development (50%) i. Course Material Development and Delivery
  • Develop and deliver engaging, multimedia-rich course materials and assessments tailored for both in-person and distance learning environments.
  • Incorporate interactive tools and platforms to enhance student engagement and accessibility.
  • Develop and maintain study guides and learning materials suitable for distance learning.
  • Ensure content reflects current tax legislation, IFRS principles, and accounting practices.
  • Incorporate practical examples relevant to the South African context.
ii. Delivery of Lectures and Tutorials
  • Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and tutorials that blend theoretical knowledge with practical applications.
  • Employ diverse teaching methodologies to cater to varied learning preferences, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
iii. Curriculum Design and Innovation
  • Lead the design and development of industry-relevant, engaging course content aligned with programme objectives.
  • Regularly review and update materials to reflect advancements in the discipline, changes in accreditation standards, and evolving industry needs.
iv. Student Consultations and Support
  • Provide academic support through individual consultations and group sessions, addressing academic challenges and promoting success.
  • Dedicate a minimum of 5 hours per week at the Writing Centre to assist students with writing, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • Mentor students throughout their academic journey, guiding coursework, research projects, and professional development.
  • Track and monitor student progress, identifying those at risk and implementing timely interventions.
vi. Assessment Design and Feedback
  • Develop robust assessments, including examinations, assignments, and projects, that align with programme learning outcomes.
  • Provide constructive, actionable feedback to support continuous student improvement and achievement of learning goals.
  • Design innovative learning experiences that seamlessly integrate theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.
  • Ensure content and assessments promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional readiness.
  • Regularly evaluate teaching practices, student outcomes, and course effectiveness to identify areas for improvement.
  • Integrate feedback from students, peers, and industry stakeholders to enhance teaching and learning practices.
2. Regulatory Compliance (5%) i. Accreditation Adherence
  • Ensure programmes meet the standards and requirements set by the Council on Higher Education (CHE), Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Regularly review programme offerings to maintain alignment with accreditation frameworks and compliance obligations.
ii. Implementation of Regulatory Changes
  • Stay updated on changes in higher education regulations, accreditation standards, and policies.
  • Assist with the implementation of necessary adjustments to programme design, teaching methodologies, and operational practices to align with updated regulatory requirements.
iii. Reporting and Documentation
  • Prepare and submit accurate and comprehensive documentation, reports, and records to meet regulatory and institutional standards.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure timely submission of reports and other compliance-related documentation to regulatory bodies.
iv. Policy Alignment and Monitoring
  • Ensure institutional policies and practices align with the legislative requirements and best practices in South African higher education.
  • Monitor compliance across programmes and departments, identifying and addressing any gaps in adherence to regulatory standards.
v. External Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as a liaison between the institution and regulatory bodies, addressing queries and ensuring clear communication regarding compliance matters.
  • Build and maintain relationships with accreditation authorities and other key stakeholders to support institutional compliance efforts.
vi. Internal Training and Support
  • Provide training and support to academic and administrative staff on regulatory requirements, as required, ensuring a thorough understanding of compliance obligations.
  • Develop resources and tools to aid in maintaining compliance across the institution.
3. General Academic Administration (15%) i. Academic Records Management
  • Maintain accurate and secure records of student grades, attendance, and programme activities.
  • Ensure all assessment records, including marks and feedback, are recorded accurately and in compliance with institutional policies and data protection standards.
ii. Registration and Graduation Processes
  • Facilitate student registration processes, ensuring compliance with institutional timelines and policies.
  • Verify student eligibility for graduation in collaboration with administrative staff, ensuring accuracy and adherence to institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff to manage logistical aspects of programme delivery, including scheduling, assessments, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure seamless communication and coordination between academic and administrative teams to support efficient programme operations.
iv. Data Management and Reporting
  • Maintain secure, accurate, and up-to-date records of student performance and programme documentation, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and legal requirements.
  • Generate detailed reports on student performance, attendance, and programme activities to support decision-making and quality assurance efforts.
v. Compliance and Documentation
  • Ensure all programme-related documentation aligns with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor and maintain records required for accreditation and quality assurance audits.
vi. Student Engagement Support
  • Assist with resolving student queries related to academic records, registration, and graduation processes.
  • Ensure students have access to accurate information and support for administrative requirements.
4. Research (5%)
  • Conduct and publish high-quality research in your academic field, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and enhancing the institution's reputation.
