Job Purpose

The successful candidate will teach all subjects related to Livestock Production, which include aspects of livestock breeding and selection, nutrition and pasture science, health management and managing production systems. S/he will be lecturing on Diploma level (NQF6); Advanced Diploma (NQF7) and Postgraduate Diploma (NQF8) and will be closely involved with curriculum and programme development in these fields of specialisation. The successful candidate will also supervise postgraduate research projects of students registered for their Master's and/or Doctoral degrees. Furthermore, the successful candidate will provide support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in learning and teaching, research, work integrated learning modalities, and community engagement.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Base qualification in Animal or Livestock Production.
  • At least two years' relevant full-time working experience, of which at least one year must be in a lecturing role at a higher education institution.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Teach livestock production subjects up to NQF level 8 in the department.
  • Develop reusable learning and teaching materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content).
  • Perform student assessments.
  • Participate in research supervise postgraduate students at Master's and/or Doctoral level.
  • Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.
  • Monitor and assess students placed in industry (workplace-based learning).
  • Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies.
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
  • Competence in teaching the subjects listed previously (experience in online teaching will be an advantage).
