Job Purpose

The incumbent will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate courses within the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Engineering, including programs such as the Bachelor's Degree and Diploma. The role also involves supervising Bachelor's-level student design projects, providing academic guidance, and supporting students in the successful completion of their coursework and projects.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with all underpinning qualifications in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registration for a Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of two (2) years' lecturing experience in higher education, or at least two (2) years of relevant industry experience, or a combination of both.
  • Proven experience in lecturing on Electrical Machines and Power Engineering subjects, with strong knowledge of Rotating Machines and core Engineering Skills.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in using MATLAB and Simscape Electrical for modelling, simulation, and analysis of electrical machines.
  • Evidence of integrating teaching and learning practices with research outcomes in academic projects.
  • Proficiency in Electrical Machines and Engineering Skills

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Prepare and deliver lectures for Electrical Machines 3 and Engineering Skills 1 within the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BET) programme.
  • Develop and define the scope of Graduate Attributes (GAs) and assess exit-level Graduate Attributes for Electrical Machines 3.
  • Develop the scope of Graduate Attributes for Engineering Skills 1 and evaluate the attainment of these skills through project-based laboratory work.
  • Provide and upload evidence of compliance with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) subject files requirements for Electrical Machines 3 and Engineering Skills 1 to the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Engineering (DEECE) SharePoint repository.
  • Contribute to curriculum and programme development for Electrical Machines 3 and Engineering Skills 1.
  • Conduct student assessments and support academic development to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Develop and update subject materials, ensuring relevance and alignment with industry standards.
  • Contribute to team teaching initiatives, research programmes, and related administrative responsibilities.
  • Supervise undergraduate students at Bachelor's level, particularly in design projects.
  • Develop and implement innovative research, teaching, and learning methodologies.
