Job Description

Purpose

Purpose: To assist in providing quality services and safe operation of lamproom equipment and tools for health, safety and productivity in the mining sector.

Technical
  • Implement and apply occupational Health, Safety and Environmental standards in the workplace;
  • Perform lamproom procedure and maintain equipment in a mining environment;
  • Manage activities in a lamproom in the mining environment;
  • Communicate and solve problems in a lamproom environment;
  • Select and use lamproom equipment and tools (e.g. portable mine lighting, self-contained self-rescuers, gas detection instruments, etc).
  • Perform basic maintenance on portable mine lighting equipment and gas detection instruments.
  • Plan and execute mine and safety programmes efficiently.
  • Access, interpret and apply compliance documentation relevant to work activity,
  • Conduct statutory reporting and collate reports.
  • Resolve coordinating activities with others at the site prior to commencement of and during the work activity.
  • Obtain and prepare materials and resources required for work in accordance with work requirements and relevant manufacturer and/or site requirements;
  • Maintain records/list/logs in accordance with site requirements;
  • Lamproom equipment is monitored and faults are identified and responded to in accordance with site requirements;
  • Perform work according to target outcome;
  • Complete general maintenance of and housekeeping to maintain the lamproom in an operational condition;
  • Execute proper asset clearance procedures and compile necessary reports in accordance with specified (legal and site-specific) requirements;
  • Compile necessary reports in relation to equipment not tested, not taken or not returned as per statutory requirements;
  • Ensure that faulty / damage / abused / missing equipment are reported, replaced and/or repaired;
  • Ensure routine maintenance procedures and operations are understood and applied according to original equipment manufacturer's instructions;
  • Problems and solutions are recorded and monitored for re-occurrence;
  • Any other reasonable duties given to you by your direct supervisor/Manager
Support
  • Liaise with other Lamproom employees, and customers on the site to assist in ensuring quality and safety of work and that contractual obligations are met;
  • Keep management updated of all unresolved and/or potential problems that would negatively affect the customer or our company;
  • Feedback on a regular basis to Management;
  • Developing of customer relations;
  • Completion of required documentation, reports and paperwork for the mine, customers and managers.
Health and Safety
  • Adhere to all mine safety regulations at all times;
  • Adhere to site specific risk assessment before commencing daily tasks;
  • Ensure medical and inductions are valid,
  • Maintain safety and personal equipment in accordance with site requirements and safe working practices;
  • Dispose of hazardous and environmentally sensitive waste products in accordance with site procedures;
  • Personal Protective Equipment is examined and used in a way that is consistent with its purpose, design and specified requirements
Supervision
  • Supervising the work process of assistant, Juniors / Relievers and Lampsman;
  • Training and updating all Junior Lampsman, Reliever Lampsman and Lampsman on site/s.
Credentials / Knowledge
  • Matric or equivalent with mathematics and physical science on higher grade (grade E) or Standard grade (D symbol);
  • National Lampsman certificate,
  • At least 5 years' experience in a Lamproom of which at least 2 years' in a supervisory role;
  • Understanding of lamproom equipment and tools;
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft package).
