Junior Legal Enforcement Counsel Consultant

Are you a litigation or arbitration specialist looking to work at the intersection of global fintech and international law?

Whipping the Cat (WTC), in partnership with Prodigy Finance, is looking for a Junior Legal Enforcement Counsel in Cape Town.

The Structure

The successful candidate will be contracted by Whipping the Cat (an award-winning Cape Town-based ALSP) and will be assigned to support the Prodigy Finance in-house legal team.

What You'll Do

Assist Prodigy's in-house legal enforcement team with managing the end-to-end legal enforcement process. This is inclusive of:

  • Drafting arbitral pleadings and the submission to remote arbitration in London.
  • Liaising with arbitrators and managing the entire arbitral process for multiple matters.
  • Negotiating settlements and payment plans with delinquent borrowers.
  • Management and oversight of external local counsel in multiple jurisdictions across the globe, including the provision of support for local court actions.
  • Provision of ad hoc support to the wider Prodigy legal team.
Who You Are
  • An admitted lawyer qualified in South Africa.
  • 5 years of legal experience gained at a reputable law firm, ALSP, or in-house at a bank, fintech, financial services company or lending business.
  • Strong litigation and/or arbitration experience.
  • Resilient, proactive, and capable of working autonomously in a high-energy environment.
Location

The role is based in Cape Town. While a flexible working policy is in place with both WTC and Prodigy, you will be expected to join WTC and/or Prodigy's teams when co-working is required.
