Our systems have defined IT architecture and technical requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting these solution-specific infrastructure standards and designing client-specific infrastructure environments that meet both our system requirements and the client's operational, security, and performance needs. This role requires deep expertise in virtualization, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, high availability, networking, and hybrid/cloud infrastructure - particularly within mission-critical public transport environments. Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled IT Infrastructure Consultant to design and tailor IT infrastructure architectures that support our public transport technology solutions. Our systems have defined IT architecture and technical requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting these solution-specific infrastructure standards and designing client-specific infrastructure environments that meet both our system requirements and the client's operational, security, and performance needs. This role requires deep expertise in virtualization, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, high availability, networking, and hybrid/cloud infrastructure - particularly within mission-critical public transport environments. Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Operations Manager, Trapeze Africa and working collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team, undertake the following high-level responsibilities in a professional manner: 1. Solution-Based Infrastructure Design Analyse the defined IT architecture requirements of our transport systems (AFC, fare management, fleet management, RTPI, control centre systems, etc.). Translate system infrastructure requirements into client-specific architecture designs. Assess client IT environments and identify gaps between current infrastructure and solution requirements. Design compliant infrastructure architectures that align with: oSolution performance requirements oAvailability and uptime requirements oSecurity standards oIntegration requirements oScalability expectations Produce High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD) based on both solution standards and client constraints. 2. Client Environment Assessment Conduct infrastructure assessments of client data centres, cloud environments, and network environments. Evaluate compute, storage, virtualization, network topology, and security posture. Identify risks, dependencies, and infrastructure readiness gaps. Provide clear infrastructure recommendations and remediation plans. 3. Architecture & Technical Expertise Design virtualized server environments (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.) aligned with system sizing requirements. Architect hybrid or cloud-hosted deployments (Azure, AWS, etc.) where required. Ensure appropriate sizing of CPU, memory, storage, and IOPS based on solution specifications. Design secure network architectures, including segmentation, firewalls, and secure remote connectivity. Define high-availability, clustering, and redundancy strategies. 4. Security & Compliance Ensure infrastructure designs align with cybersecurity best practices and transport authority standards. Incorporate identity management, encryption, endpoint protection, and network security controls. Support compliance with data protection and payment security requirements (e.g., PCI-DSS where applicable). Stay current with emerging security technologies and threats affecting transport systems. 5. Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Design Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) strategies aligned with defined RPO and RTO requirements. Implement backup, replication, and failover solutions. Ensure mission-critical transport systems achieve required resilience levels. Participate in resilience testing and recovery validation exercises. 6. Stakeholder & Pre-Sales Engagement Provide infrastructure expertise during solution design and bid/tender processes. Present infrastructure architectures to transport authorities and technical stakeholders. Support clarification of IT architecture requirements during implementation. Collaborate with software, implementation, and project teams. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years' experience in IT infrastructure architecture and design. Proven experience designing infrastructure based on defined system technical requirements. Strong virtualization expertise (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.). Experience with cloud platforms (such as Azure, AWS, or local South African cloud infrastructure, etc.). Strong networking knowledge (LAN/WAN, firewalls, routing, switching, VPNs). Experience designing high-availability and disaster recovery environments. Strong cybersecurity knowledge.
