ISS Pretoria: Programme Assistant (temporary, part-time), African Futures and Innovation

The African Futures and Innovation (AFI) programme at the Institute for Security Studies seeks a proactive administrator to support events and logistics. Responsibilities include coordinating speakers and participants, managing event logistics, maintaining an events database, and keeping materials organised in Google Drive. The role reports to the Programme Officer and requires half-day attendance, Monday to Friday, with full in-office presence for the first three months.

Overview of duties
  • Support the Programme Officer with administrative planning, implementation, tracking and filing
  • Coordinate event arrangements and logistics
  • Maintain organised filing systems, including regular uploads to Google Drive
  • Provide general administrative support, including scheduling internal meetings, taking minutes, responding to external inquiries, and liaising with and booking service providers
Overview of requirements
  • Certificate in business administration, secretarial studies or office administration
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in programme administration
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and convey information clearly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent organisational, analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Experience working with external partners, donors or stakeholders in international development is advantageous

This temporary half-day position is offered until December 2026.
