MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To assist with the implementation and maintenance of a functional Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme at hospital level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
  • Identify, mitigate and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Investigate, analyse and interpret clinical data and act upon findings.
  • Ensure adherence to statutory bodies.
  • Identify training needs in the hospital and provide input in the development of training material.
  • Influence and equip hospital teams to understand and comply with IPC policies and principles.
  • Provide support with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in the absence of the Patient Safety Manager.
  • To manage key stakeholder relations.
REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION: Nursing qualification (degree or diploma)

DESIRED EDUCATION: IPC course

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2-4 Years working in a hospital environment as a professional healthcare practitioner

DESIRED EXPERIENCE: 1 year IPC related work

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Quality improvement methodologies
  • Conducting a system analysis of healthcare, associated infections and institute preventative measures
  • Interpretation and application of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definitions
  • Auditing (e.g. compliance to hand hygiene and environmental cleaning audits)
  • IPC surveillance and risk identification
  • Report writing skills
  • Identification; investigation and management of outbreaks
  • Understanding and application of relevant IPC principles
  • Relevant statutory requirements and accreditation standards
  • Data analysis and interpretation
