MAIN PURPOSE OF JOBTo assist with the implementation and maintenance of a functional Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programme at hospital level.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS- Identify, mitigate and manage risks related to Infection Prevention and Control.
- Investigate, analyse and interpret clinical data and act upon findings.
- Ensure adherence to statutory bodies.
- Identify training needs in the hospital and provide input in the development of training material.
- Influence and equip hospital teams to understand and comply with IPC policies and principles.
- Provide support with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in the absence of the Patient Safety Manager.
- To manage key stakeholder relations.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION: Nursing qualification (degree or diploma)
DESIRED EDUCATION: IPC course
REQUIRED EXPERIENCEESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2-4 Years working in a hospital environment as a professional healthcare practitioner
DESIRED EXPERIENCE: 1 year IPC related work
REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE- Quality improvement methodologies
- Conducting a system analysis of healthcare, associated infections and institute preventative measures
- Interpretation and application of the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definitions
- Auditing (e.g. compliance to hand hygiene and environmental cleaning audits)
- IPC surveillance and risk identification
- Report writing skills
- Identification; investigation and management of outbreaks
- Understanding and application of relevant IPC principles
- Relevant statutory requirements and accreditation standards
- Data analysis and interpretation
