Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and experienced HR Generalist to lead and support core HR functions with a strong focus on end-to-end recruitment, skills and development, industrial relations, Employment Equity, and payroll compliance.

This role plays a key part in driving talent acquisition, employee growth, and compliance with South African labour legislation and skills development frameworks.

Key Responsibility Areas 1. Recruitment & Talent Acquisition (40%) Strategic Workforce Acquisition & Onboarding
  • Manage the full end-to-end recruitment lifecycle.
  • Partner with line managers to define competency-based job requirements.
  • Develop sourcing strategies aligned to Employment Equity targets.
  • Maintain and optimise recruitment tracking systems.
  • Prepare employment offers, regret letters, engagement packs, and onboarding documentation.
  • Coordinate and monitor structured onboarding and induction.
  • Track probationary performance and ensure formal feedback cycles.
  • Compile and analyse recruitment metrics (time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, EE alignment, retention trends).
  • Ensure recruitment processes are legally compliant and audit ready.

2. Skills Development & Performance Management (20%) Organisational Capability & Workforce Development
  • Conduct annual and ongoing Training Needs Analysis (TNA).
  • Develop and implement Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Reports (ATR).
  • Manage technical training for Auto Electricians and Apprentices.
  • Coordinate learnerships, apprenticeships, and structured development programmes.
  • Oversee performance review cycles and improvement plans.
  • Implement and support performance management systems.
  • Maintain training matrices and competency assessments.
  • Monitor training budgets and funding opportunities.
  • Ensure alignment between skills planning, EE goals, and succession planning.

Outcome Focus: Strengthen workforce capability to improve productivity, compliance and succession continuity.

3. Employment Equity & Transformation (15%)
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the Employment Equity Plan.
  • Facilitate EE Committee meetings.
  • Compile and submit annual EE Reports.
  • Track progress against EE targets and provide corrective action recommendations.
  • Ensure recruitment and development initiatives support transformation goals.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the organisation.

Outcome Focus: Drive measurable transformation aligned to legislative and strategic objectives.

4. Industrial Relations & HR Governance (15%) Labour Law Compliance & Workplace Discipline
  • Advise management on labour legislation and disciplinary processes.
  • Represent the company in disciplinary hearings, grievances, and CCMA/DRC matters.
  • Ensure fair and consistent application of disciplinary procedures.
  • Manage chronic absenteeism and workplace misconduct cases.
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyse turnover trends.
  • Develop, review, and implement HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure HR compliance audits and risk mitigation processes are in place.
  • Liaise with legal advisors where required.

Outcome Focus: Protect organisational risk while fostering a fair and structured work environment.

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll & HR policy statutory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with SARS, the Department of Labour, and bargaining councils.
  • Manage benefits (medical aid, provident fund, funeral, AHP, SAF etc.).
  • Manage ESS and time & attendance systems.
  • Maintain accurate personnel records and HR data integrity.
  • Manage annual salary reviews and benchmarking.

Outcome Focus: Ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and financial integrity.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources/Industrial Psychology/Labour Relations or related qualification.
  • 5-10 years' experience in a comprehensive HR Generalist role.
  • Strong exposure to MERSETA, SETA grant submissions, WSP/ATR processes.
  • Proficiency in Sage Premier Payroll and HRIS systems.
  • Sound knowledge of:
    • Labour Relations Act
    • Basic Conditions of Employment Act
    • Employment Equity Act
    • Skills Development Act
  • Experience in a technical/automotive/engineering environment advantageous.
  • Commercially aware and operationally aligned
