Job Description
Established in 1936, The Federated Employers Mutual Assurance Company (RF) Proprietary Limited (FEM) is a mutual insurer operating under license from the Compensation Commissioner and our business is governed by the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act of 1993. Our operations are restricted to the Building and Construction Industry under the 0500 subclasses of the Department of Employment and Labour's classification of industries. FEM is registered as a non-life insurer in terms of the Insurance Act 18 of 2017.
Role SummaryReporting operationally to the CFO, and functionally to the Board and relevant board committees, the successful candidate will be accountable for providing strategic leadership subject matter expertise and enterprise-wide coordination to ensure a robust and effective risk management and compliance strategy. The incumbent will oversee a team of four professionals and ensure that all required processes, controls and interventions are implemented to minimise the impact of material risks. The role encompasses the analysis, oversight, and management of risk and compliance matters, as well as informed decision-making to ensure adherence to ethical standards, statutory obligations, and regulatory requirements. Sound knowledge of industry-specific laws, regulations, and ethical standards will be a distinct advantage.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership subject matter expertise and enterprise-wide coordination to ensure a robust and effective risk management and compliance strategy.
- Oversee a team of four professionals and ensure that all required processes, controls and interventions are implemented to minimise the impact of material risks.
- Analyse, oversee and manage risk and compliance matters, and make informed decision-making to ensure adherence to ethical standards and statutory obligations.
- Act as the Head of the Risk Management Function and Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and manage implementation, maintenance and continuous enhancement of the Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance Management frameworks.
- Develop and maintain strong, professional relationships with FEM's primary regulators: the Prudential Authority, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority, and the Compensation Fund.
- Relevant bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in a risk and/or compliance environment, with at least 10 years in a managerial and leadership role.
- IRMSA membership and demonstrated quantitative capability relating to investments and risk-based capital.
- Membership of CISA, Certified Compliance Practitioner (CPrac (SA or Certified Compliance Professional (C(Prof)(SA is a strong advantage.
