Group Exploration Geologist

Job Description

Our client in the mining industry is seeking a highly experienced Group Exploration Geologist to manage growth and exploration projects, determine the feasibility of mining operations, and provide essential geological insights to guide resource exploration and extraction. The successful candidate will identify and assess the location, quantity, and quality of mineral deposits, supporting operational and strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and execute exploration programmes, from planning to implementation, in line with strategic objectives.
  • Conduct geological surveys, sample collection, and analysis to evaluate mineral deposits.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage exploration databases and geological models.
  • Compile and analyse exploration data to recommend follow-up programs for resource expansion.
  • Provide input into Mineral Resource Statements and Competent Person's Reports.
  • Prepare technical and regulatory reports (e.g., DMRE submissions) and ensure compliance with SAMREC/SAMVAL Codes.
  • Monitor project budgets, expenditure, and resource allocation to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Identify and implement process and technology improvements to enhance exploration efficiency.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders across Mining, Processing, and Exploration teams, and engage with external contractors, suppliers, and professional bodies.
  • Apply practical mining knowledge to guide the design and development of mines and exploration targets.
Requirements
  • BSc Honours Degree (NQF 8) in Geology; advanced degree advantageous.
  • Professional registration with SACNASP (Pr.Sci.Nat.).
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in exploration and/or mining, with multi-commodity exposure (emphasis on Chrome and PGEs).
  • Proficient in geological modelling and data management software (Sable, Datamine, Surpac, ArcGIS, Leapfrog).
  • Strong understanding of SAMREC/SAMVAL Codes and mining legislation, including the Mine Health and Safety Act.
  • Knowledge of resource modelling, estimation, and the practical mining implications of geological decisions.
  • Experience in project planning, budgeting, and financial monitoring.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
