Financial Accountant

Fruitways is a leading agri business in South Africa. We specialise in the growing, packing and marketing of apples and pears to retailers, traders and wholesalers around the globe.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Accountant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate needs to be a proactive individual who is focused on producing accurate, detail oriented work in a deadline driven environment. Reporting to the Group Financial Manager, you will work at the Fruitways Marketing Office in Somerset West.

• Maintain the general ledger, reconcile intercompany loans and transactions, investigate income statement variances, ensure all open batches are processed, and assist with Sage 300 module maintenance.
• Prepare and collect monthly balance sheet reconciliations and ensure they meet company guidelines and requirements.
• Review and report exceptions for Creditors Control, Debtors Control and Bank Reconciliation.
• Initiate, prepare, and process both standard and adjusting monthly journals, and distribute monthly general ledger reports to operational personnel.
• Assist in the preparation and review of draft management accounts and forecast data analysis, supporting management accounting in producing accurate management account packs and monthly reports.
• Implement various financial control processes to identify risk and enable an efficient financial control process.
• Check, approve, and release EFT payments, and ensure the accuracy and validity of petty cash and credit card transactions.
• Ensure that all process descriptions as documented, current and evaluated with management for efficiency.
• Manage the Forward Exchange Contract policy applied to foreign currency fruit sales.
• Assist the Finance department with Ad hoc projects.

• 3 Year diploma/degree (postgraduate degree highly advantageous)
• Minimum 3 years' experience in similar role
• SAICA/SAIPA articles advantageous
• Advanced Excel
• Proven understanding of accounting principles and policies
• Ability to work accurately and meet deadlines
• Professional written and verbal communication skills
• Sage 300 or similar accounting package
