This role plays a key part in the day-to-day finance function and supports accurate financial reporting, strong governance, and regulatory compliance

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing financial accounting processes up to trial balance, ensuring accurate reporting, and maintaining compliance with IFRS and South African tax legislation. The ideal candidate will have completed SAICA or SAIPA articles, have at least 5 years' financial accounting experience, and be comfortable working independently in a deadline-driven environment.

The duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to): Financial Accounting & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate financial records and prepare financial statements up to trial balance
  • Prepare monthly management accounts
  • Ensure income and expenses are correctly recorded and allocated to appropriate cost centres
  • Perform month-end close procedures, including journals, accruals, and adjustments
  • Conduct detailed balance sheet reviews and reconciliations to month-end
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank, debtors, creditors, prepaid expenses, and accruals
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable financial regulations
Tax & Compliance
  • Prepare and submit VAT, Income Tax, and Provisional Tax returns via SARS eFiling
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with SARS requirements
  • Liaise with tax authorities when required
  • Stay up to date with tax legislation and regulatory changes affecting the business
Reconciliations, Controls & Cash Management
  • Perform bank, creditor, debtor, and intercompany reconciliations
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure accurate depreciation calculations
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial data
  • Manage daily cash flow and oversee payment processing and authorisations
  • Manage supplier and customer accounts
Audit & Financial Governance
  • Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and company policies
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial documentation and audit files
  • Assist with internal and external audit processes
Role Qualifications and Experience
  • BCom Accounting or related degree
  • Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles
  • SAIPA or AGA registration (or eligible)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Financial Accountant or similar role
  • Strong taxation experience, including VAT, Income Tax, and SARS eFiling
  • Solid understanding of general ledger reconciliations
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and South African tax legislation
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working with SAGE Evolution would be advantageous
  • Experience within the financial services industry will be advantageous
