Expeditor
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Expeditor to join our fabrication team in Johannesburg. In this hands on role you will track and chase fabricated assemblies from the workshop and subcontractors, expedite them through corrosion protection, perform basic quality control, witness loading, and ensure complete, accurate deliveries to site for major commercial, industrial and mining projects across Africa.
Key Responsibilities- Track and monitor the progress of all fabricated steel assemblies from the workshop floor through to final dispatch
- Actively chase and expedite assemblies with internal production teams and external subcontractors to meet tight project schedules
- Coordinate and expedite the flow of assemblies through all corrosion protection processes (blasting, painting, galvanizing, etc.)
- Perform basic quality control checks and verifications at key stages of fabrication and corrosion protection
- Witness and verify loading of completed assemblies at the corrosion protection facility
- Ensure completeness of every load - no components left behind, correctly marked and accounted for
- Generate accurate delivery notes, packing lists, manifests and site documentation
- Liaise with site teams, transport providers and project managers on delivery schedules and requirements
- Maintain real time records and produce daily/weekly status reports highlighting any risks or delays
- Identify bottlenecks in the workshop to site flow and recommend practical improvements
- Support safe and efficient dispatch processes in line with company quality and safety standards
- Minimum 4 years' expediting or production tracking experience in structural steel fabrication or heavy engineering
- Solid hands on knowledge of the full fabrication process, including assembly, blasting, painting/galvanizing and dispatch
- Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and material markings
- Strong organisational and problem solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) and basic ERP/job card systems
- Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport (required for site visits and witnessing loads)
- Must be a South African citizen or hold a valid work permit
- Physically fit and comfortable working in a workshop and corrosion protection environment
