Main job function

The Engineering Manager is a 2.13.1, appointment in terms of the MHSA and is responsible for providing a dedicated and strategic Engineering service. The role has a management focus to lead the site Engineering department towards industry best practices and to integrate the engineering discipline's outputs with the work of other disciplines in the business.

The incumbent is expected to initiate appropriate systems and best functional practices within the Engineering field to optimise the performance of the discipline, as well as the business. The role has a project management focus where the incumbent is expected to develop project plans, capital forecasts/ budgets, as well as engineering and safety standards and procedures, associated with approved projects.

Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering qualification (BSc/ BTech) at NQF level 7
  • Government Certificate of competency - Mining (Mechanical & Electrical)
Criteria
  • 15 years' post graduate qualification experience within the mining industry
  • Experience in project management and execution
  • Experience in asset management principles around mining and related equipment and associated operational / maintenance standards /philosophies
  • Experienced as a 2.13.1 appointment according to MHSA no 29 of 1996
  • Experience in underground mining services design, installation and maintenance
  • Experience in shaft refurbishment
