Job Description

Our client in the mining sector is recruiting an experienced Engineering Manager to lead engineering delivery on a large-scale mining and mineral processing project in South Africa. The successful candidate will act as the Owner's Engineering Representative, overseeing detailed engineering design and supporting the transition into construction and field execution for a major greenfield mine development integrated with an existing operation. This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring engineering design, technical governance and delivery meet project, operational and regulatory requirements. The position reports to the Project Director and forms part of an integrated project engineering leadership team. Travel Requirement: Up to 40% international travel during the first year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement engineering execution strategies and plans
  • Manage project engineering scope and technical design delivery
  • Ensure engineering designs are integrated, fit-for-purpose and aligned with operational requirements
  • Provide technical leadership and governance across the engineering team
  • Implement technical assurance frameworks and risk-based design reviews
  • Ensure designs support safe construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance
  • Manage engineering service providers ensuring delivery against quality, schedule and budget
  • Lead engineering change management and technical decision processes
  • Develop scopes of work, evaluate tenders and oversee engineering resources
  • Coordinate project stakeholders and facilitate collaboration across engineering and operational teams
  • Ensure successful handover of as-built engineering documentation to operations
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Honours advantageous)
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in engineering leadership within mining or major capital projects
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Professional Registration with ECSA (PrEng) preferred
  • GCC (Mines and Works or OHS Act) advantageous
  • Exposure to mineral sands operations (dry mining, slurry transport, processing or tailings) beneficial
  • Experience working with international EPC contractors advantageous
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to operate effectively within complex project environments
