EMPLOYEE RELATIONS OFFICER
Job Description
The Employee Relations Officer will be expected to: Provide high-quality Industrial and Employee Relations advice and services; manage and resolve complex employee relations issues; conduct effective, fit-for-purpose and objective investigations; and manage disciplinary and grievance processes. Represent the company at the CCMA/MEIBC-CDR for referred cases. Maintain in-depth knowledge of employment and labour relations legislation and case law relevant to the management of employees in a highly unionized environment. Manage legal risks by ensuring regulatory compliance and adherence to relevant codes of good practice, as well as company policies and procedures.
Employee Relations- Provide high-quality Industrial and Employee Relations advice and services to line managers.
- Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues.
- Conduct effective, fit-for-purpose investigations and coordinate disciplinary processes.
- Represent the company at MEIBC-CDR and CCMA in conciliations and arbitrations.
- Manage internal grievances lodged by unions and individual employees and ensure they are resolved expeditiously.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to the day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Partner with the HR Executive in executing HR strategies.
- Consult and brief company lawyers as and when required.
- Contribute to policy development and implementation in relation to Industrial and Employee Relations matters.

- Act as a change agent to drive transformation in the business.
- Attend disciplinary hearings and advise chairpersons.
- Identify and/or evaluate causes of conflict and propose appropriate corrective actions.
- Manage and deliver IR-related training, including chairpersons' training and educating managers on how to initiate disciplinary hearings.
- Provide support to management and staff in managing performance and assist in the analysis of plans to resolve identified performance problems.
- Work with the Occupational Health Nurse to track and manage abuse of sick leave and address it through counselling processes as prescribed by company policy.
- Monitor labour relations practices within HR and the business.
- Monitor developments within the labour relations field and advise on best labour relations practices.
- Provide advice to HR managers, officers, and line managers regarding procedural and substantive fairness issues.
- Report on all IR/ER-related cases on a monthly and annual basis as required by the shareholder.
- Report on IR activity throughout the organisation.
- Monitor internal labour relations trends and submit relevant reports.
- Remain appraised of all changes or relevant IR/ER news and provide analysis and reports accordingly.
- Comply with corporate governance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, i.e. BCEA, LRA, EEA, OHSACT, and SDA.
