Electronic Engineering Lead

Job Purpose

Our client is seeking an experienced and strategic Electronic Engineering Lead to oversee and develop the Electronic Engineering function in line with product market needs and long-term business objectives. The successful candidate will drive engineering excellence across product design, development, systems engineering, and technology advancement. This role requires a strong leader capable of establishing best practices, building high performing teams, optimising processes, and delivering innovative, high quality electronic products. The Electronic Engineering Lead will play a critical role in shaping future technologies, enhancing product development efficiency, and ensuring the organisation remains competitive within the engineering and technology landscape.

Requirements & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience (preferably 7 years) as a Product Development Engineer within a systems engineering environment
  • At least 5 years' applied experience in:
    • Project management
    • System acquisition
    • Configuration management
    • Risk management
    • Engineering design and development
  • Previous experience managing an engineering discipline or technical team is advantageous
Key Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of electronic design principles, production methods, techniques, procedures, and equipment
  • Experience in the technical management of electronic product design and related engineering support functions, including:
    • Integrated Logistic Support (ILS)
    • Product Data Management (PDM)
    • Reliability and Availability Engineering
    • Drawing office management
  • Strong understanding of electronic engineering within multidisciplinary product development and manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge of firmware and electronics development lifecycles
  • Understanding of hardware safety certification processes (e.g. RTCA/DO-254)
  • Solid grounding in mathematics, physical sciences, engineering technologies, and design principles
  • Good understanding of systems engineering processes and review gates
Leadership & Business Acumen
  • Knowledge of strategic planning, business modelling, and operational management principles
  • Experience in leadership, resource allocation, and people management
Qualifications
  • Minimum BEng in Electronic Engineering
  • Management training or an equivalent qualification is advantageous
