Job Description
An opportunity has become available for a Driver. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the timeous, effective and cost-efficient transportation of goods and passengers.
Key Performance Areas KPA1: Pre-Trip Procedures- 1.1. Check the vehicles according to Vehicle Inspection Checklist and procedures and hand over to Dispatch Controller- Actual Form Number.
- 1.2. Report irregularities to Dispatch Controller/ (In Northern, Vaal, FS/NC, EC and Mpumalanga Zones report irregularities to the Head of Inventory or Inventory shift Supervisor) before vehicle leaves premises.
- 1.3. Receive Trip Instruction Sheets Form and sign upon receipt.
- 1.4. Ensure that name tags are collected and worn at all times.
- 1.5. Collect products to be transported when appropriate with the Delivery Sheet and ensure that Blood Products are handled with care and secured in the loading haul.
- 1.6. Leave copy of delivery with Dispatch Controller (Head of Inventory/ Inventory shift supervisor in Northern, Vaal, FS/NC, EC and Mpumalanga Zones).
- 1.7. Complete the Trip Sheet and specifically add odometer readings and complete the log book.
- 1.8. Ensure fuel level is adequate for the trip, if fuel not adequate obtain fuel card for filling of vehicle.
- 1.9. When refuelling the driver should check that the odometer reading on the fuel slip is correct.
- 2.1 Complete the Trip Sheet.
- 2.2 Adhere to delivery time lines and instructions on the trip sheet and report deviations on trip sheet and contact Dispatch Controller and take suggested actions.
- 2.3 Driving needs to be undertaken according to the SANBS Rules and Regulations and also in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act.
- 2.4 Collection and delivery of goods to and from the different destinations and ensure that the recipient acknowledges receipt by signing the trip sheet and delivery note.
- 2.5 Driver to deal with recipient in a professional and friendly manner.
- 2.6 Promote the image of SANBS at all times.
- 2.7 Completion of trip sheet and hand goods and trip sheet to Dispatch Controller.
- 2.8 Collect Vehicle Inspection Checklist from Dispatch Controller and undertake closing Vehicle Inspection with Dispatch Controller.
- 2.9 Hand over goods to recipient with delivery note.
- 2.10 Hand over the Trip Sheet and keys to the Dispatch Controller.
- 2.11 No unauthorised goods or deviations from routes are allowed without the consent of the SANBS Dispatch Controller.
- 2.12 Complete Log Book after each trip.
- 3.1 Confirm information for passengers to be collected and delivered from Dispatch Controller and collect a copy of the request for Transport form and confirm information contained therein.
- 3.2 Prior to collecting International passengers from International Terminal driver needs to collect petty cash for parking fees from Dispatch Controller.
- 3.3 Drive to destination.
- 3.4 Driver to display SANBS Welcome Board with all airport passenger collections.
- 3.5 Welcome passengers in a friendly and professional manner to the awaiting SANBS vehicle.
- 3.6 Promote the image of SANBS at all times.
- 3.7 Arrive at destination and enquire about whether passenger is familiar with venue to be visited, if not escort the passengers to reception.
- 3.8 Request the Completed Customer Service Assessment Form.
- 3.9 No unauthorised passengers must be transported in company vehicles.
- 3.10 Complete Log Book after the scheduled trip and route.
- 4.1 Perform ad hoc duties as and when required.
- 4.2 Answer the incoming calls to the transport department in a professional manner and take and relay messages to Dispatch Controller.
- 4.3 Cleaning of vehicles.
- 4.4 Report accidents/ incidents within the hour to the Dispatch Controller and the Police and obtain a case number.
- 4.5 The duties below only apply to the Technical drivers in the Zones.
- 4.5.1 Perform any preparation duties for clinics in the absence of general assistant (This duty is only for Technical Drivers in the Zones).
- 4.5.2 Unpack hamper from blood banks in the absence of the General Assistant (This duty is only for Technical Drivers in the Zones).
