SUMMARY:

Our client based in Isando is looking for a DevOps Engineer with at least 8+ years of experience in DevOps, software engineering, or systems engineering roles, coupled with NQF Level 7 qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and Advanced certifications in DevOps or Cloud.

Purpose of the Role:

The DevOps Engineer Level 3 is a senior technical role, responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising enterprise-scale DevOps practices. The role leads automation, CI/CD strategy, infrastructure modernisation, and cloud-native adoption. It is accountable for ensuring platforms are secure, reliable, and aligned with business transformation objectives. The position operates across RUN, GROW, and TRANSFORM initiatives with significant responsibility for innovation, technical leadership, and mentoring junior DevOps Engineers.

Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Matric plus NQF Level 7 Qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Advanced certifications in DevOps or Cloud (e.g., Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS
  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps, software engineering, or systems engineering roles
  • Proven experience designing CI/CD pipelines, cloud-native infrastructure, and automation frameworks
  • Strong expertise in managing production environments and critical enterprise applications
  • Proven experience in container orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift)
  • Strong background in designing automated deployments using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi and Bicep)
  • Hands on support of production workloads and incident management
  • 3+ years of experience in leading DevOps transformations in large organisations
  • Exposure to microservices architecture and container orchestration at scale
  • Vendor engagement and technical contract evaluation experience
Role Description: DevOps Strategy and Implementation
  • Lead design and implementation of DevOps practices across enterprise platforms
  • Define CI/CD and automation standards, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy
Cloud and Platform Modernisation
  • Drive adoption of cloud-native platforms, microservices, and container orchestration
  • Lead migration of workloads from legacy to modern platforms
Infrastructure, Security, and Compliance (GROW AND TRANSFORM)
  • Ensure infrastructure meets performance, scalability, and security standards
  • Embed governance and compliance into automation and deployment practices
Operational Excellence
  • Lead incident resolution for critical production systems
  • Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and recovery solutions
Technical Leadership and Mentorship
  • Mentor Level 1 and 2 DevOps Engineers
  • Provide technical direction for automation, tooling, and deployment strategies
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and introduce emerging tools, frameworks, and practices
  • Drive continuous improvement in agile delivery environments, e.g., delivery speed, quality, and reliability
  • Continuously develop knowledge of DevOps tools, cloud platforms, and agile practices
  • Work with junior developers to improve deployment strategies and release management
Collaboration and Business Engagement
  • Engage with product owners, architects, and senior managers to align DevOps with business priorities
  • Communicate technical risks, dependencies, and solutions to stakeholders
