Overview

Data Quality Analyst - JHB - Onsite - 12 Month Contract. Location: Johannesburg North, South Africa. Job Type: Contract Full-Time Hours. Salary: Market related. Primary Industry: Banking and Finance. Secondary Industry: Information Technology and Internet.

Responsibilities
  • Define/Enforce DQ Rules: scorecards and exception triage.
  • Conduct regular data quality assessments to identify inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and anomalies across multiple data sources.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain data quality control procedures, including data cleansing and validation techniques.
  • Collaborate with data owners, business units, and IT teams to resolve data quality issues promptly.
  • Monitor data quality metrics and produce comprehensive reports for management and stakeholders.
  • Support data governance initiatives by enforcing data standards, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in the design and deployment of data quality tools and systems to enhance data integrity.
  • Perform root cause analysis of data quality problems and recommend corrective actions.
  • Keep abreast of industry best practices and regulatory changes relevant to data management and quality assurance.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members and business units on data quality principles and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Professional qualification or certification in data management, data quality, or a related discipline is desirable.
Education
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.
Experience
  • At least three years' experience in data analysis, data quality management, or a related role within the banking and finance sector or IT environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in using data quality tools and software, such as data profiling, cleansing, and validation platforms.
  • Experience working with large datasets and relational databases.
  • Proven ability to identify data issues and implement effective solutions.
Knowledge and Skills
  • DQ frameworks, SQL
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good understanding of data governance principles and regulatory requirements relevant to banking and finance
  • Familiarity with data management concepts including data lifecycle, metadata management, and master data management
  • Proficient in SQL and data querying techniques
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Problem-solving aptitude and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in data quality or data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK, CDMP, or similar
  • Experience with data quality and data management tools such as Informatica, Talend, or Collibra
  • Knowledge of banking and financial regulations impacting data management, such as Basel III or GDPR
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis is advantageous
Working Conditions
  • This role is based in Johannesburg North and requires working full-time hours on a contract basis
  • Office-based work with the possibility of remote working arrangements depending on organisational policy
  • Occasional requirement to work extended hours to meet project deadlines or regulatory reporting schedules
  • The role requires frequent interaction with various departments, necessitating strong interpersonal skills and adaptability
