Job Description

Vacancy exists for a CSSD Manager at Life St Georges Hospital. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Nurse Manager, Yvonne Rajcoomar, and is responsible for managing the operational functions of the CSSD department while ensuring full compliance with legislative, infection prevention, and quality standards. The role involves overseeing all decontamination, sterilisation, packing, and distribution processes to guarantee the safe and efficient supply of surgical instruments. Strong staff management, performance oversight, training, and ongoing development are essential.

Critical Outputs
  • Ensure correct packing and sterilisation of instrument sets and linen packs for theatre and doctors' rooms in accordance with company infection control standards.
  • Manage CSSD to comply with relevant legislation and Life Healthcare policies and procedures.
  • Manage CSSD staff to ensure adequate and cost-effective staffing, promoting co operative working relationships and performance management.
  • Manage the department's budget, including control and maintenance of equipment and stock.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards of the department to ensure adherence to infection control and SHEQ policies and procedures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and manage the unit workload.
  • Effectively market the unit to doctors to promote satisfactory working relationships.
  • Gather relevant information to assist the Theatre Manager in capital expenditure planning.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse experienced in operating theatre processes including scrubbing, flooring, anesthetic induction or a qualification in decontamination services or qualification in any other sterilisation procedures.
  • Current registration with SANC.
  • Previous experience in managing a CSSD department is highly advantageous.
  • Previous people management and conflict management experience required.
  • Flexibility related to working hours.
