Job Description

Structures and MEP Property & Buildings (P&B) engineering design require a permanent pre-contract and projects commercial manager to support and develop the business's commercial acumen at and beyond the crucial bidding stage. Moving the business from pricing engineering activity to risk assessment and pricing through considering the whole opportunity including de-risking working capital costs, whether bidding to developers, architects or contractors including overseas clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Bid management and client engagement
  • Works with the Business Units various teams, regions and Group support functions to design, implement and manage high quality and accurate tender and proposal pricing forecasting, planning and budgeting processes that are integrated with other planning processes employed within the Group.
  • Working closely with the Discipline Leads, the business unit's and group's work winning and tender teams, and the business development and pursuit leaders on a day-to-day basis.
  • Lead, Coordinate & Compile Bids and Contractual arrangements for Multi-Disciplinary Projects
  • Complete WSP internal processes for Assess and Develop stages of the project lifecycle for Promotional Projects (Bids)
  • Form a sound knowledge of client engagement contract forms (FIDIC White Book, NEC 3 Professional Service Contract, PROCSA, NDA/CAs, etc.), and their application to engineering services.
  • Support the business in pro-actively negotiating best outcomes, balancing financial performance and risk reduction with ongoing client relationships.
  • Ensuring that proposed client NDA's and contract agreements are reviewed (by others), risks identified and proposed mitigations communicated to the project team.
  • Liaise with the WSP legal team to undertake due diligence on potential clients and supply chain partners.
  • Manage public sector bidding including all prescribed legal forms and commensurate processes.
  • Ensure that quarterly project financial and technical reviews are undertaken in accordance with the company's policies and procedures.
  • Provide support to the business working closely with the Legal Team and Project Design Manager, where required, to manage change, claims for additional fees and recover disputed working capital and debt.
  • Manage change/additional services and fees including negotiations.
  • Ensure the required contract amendments are made to reflect agreed changes such as compensation event or variation documentation.
  • Train staff in commercial management practices within Property & Buildings.
  • Raise commercial awareness in Property & Buildings through regular feedback, bid and project reviews, meetings, and training.
  • Review and implement improvements to processes, procedures and systems including bid management, commercial aspects of project delivery, governance, and compliance.

Qualifications

Minimum NQF 7 degree in Built Environment, Engineering or Quantity Surveying

Minimum 5 years' experience in commercial and project controls within the consulting engineering industry

Professional registration or candidacy
