TheCode 10 Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation ofmedium to heavy waste management vehicles, supporting the collection,transportation, and disposal of waste in accordance with relevant legislationand FMSA operational procedures. The incumbent will also assist with vehiclemaintenance and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the waste managementservice delivery programme.

Key Responsibilities
  • OperateCode 10 vehicles including waste collection trucks, tipper trucks, and otherassigned fleet vehicles safely and in full compliance with the National RoadTraffic Act.
  • Transportwaste, refuse, recyclable materials, and related loads to designated disposalor processing sites according to approved routes and schedules.
  • Assistwaste management teams with loading and offloading of waste and equipment whererequired.
  • Conductdaily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to confirm roadworthiness andreport any defects or faults to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintainaccurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks recording all trips, mileage, fuelconsumption, and maintenance activities.
  • Adherestrictly to waste collection schedules and designated routes to ensure reliableand timely service delivery.
  • Collectand deliver official documents, materials, and operational equipment asrequired.
  • Ensureassigned vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and roadworthy at all times.
  • Liaisewith the fleet supervisor to coordinate scheduled vehicle services, repairs,and licence renewals.
  • Complywith all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements applicable to wastemanagement and heavy vehicle operations.
  • Maintainconfidentiality of all operational information and agency matters at all times.
Requirements Education & Licensing
  • ValidSouth African driver's licence - Code 10 (mandatory requirement).
  • ValidProfessional Driving Permit (PrDP) - mandatory for transporting waste/dangerousgoods; must be current and in good standing.
  • Defensivedriving certificate will be an added advantage.
  • Basicknowledge of OHS regulations applicable to waste management and heavy vehicleoperations is advantageous.
Experience
  • Minimumof 2-3 years' proven experience operating Code 10 vehicles.
  • Experiencein a waste management, municipal services, refuse collection, or logisticsenvironment is strongly preferred.
  • Clean,verifiable driving record with no major traffic violations or licenceendorsements.
  • Priorexperience in a government or public sector environment will be an advantage.
Knowledge & Skills
  • • Thoroughknowledge of Pretoria and surrounding areas, including major routes, wastedisposal sites, and recycling facilities.
  • • Soundunderstanding of Code 10 vehicle operation, load securing, and safe drivingpractices.
  • • Familiaritywith fleet management processes, government transport procedures, and vehiclelogbook requirements.
  • • Workingknowledge of waste management operations, refuse collection routes, andenvironmental compliance requirements.
  • • Abilityto use GPS navigation systems and interpret route maps.
  • • Goodcommunication and interpersonal skills.
  • • Abilityto work independently and as part of a team in physically demanding, outdooroperational conditions.
  • • Willingnessto work outside normal office hours, on weekends, or during public holidayswhen operationally required.
  • Highlevel of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Reliability,punctuality, and strong time management.
  • Physicalfitness and ability to perform duties in varied environmental and weatherconditions.
