Summary of the position's Responsibilities

The CMDB and 3PP Configuration Engineer is responsible for managing the configuration of IT services and third party products within the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). This role ensures accurate, secure, and compliant configuration data across internal systems and external integrations. The engineer plays a critical role in maintaining service integrity, supporting audits, and enabling efficient change and incident management.

• Maintain and update configuration items (CIs) in the CMDB, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and traceability.
• Define and enforce CI relationships, attributes, and lifecycle states.
• Collaborate with service owners and infrastructure teams to validate and reconcile configuration data.

• Manage configuration and integration of third party software and services across environments.
• Ensure third party configurations align within internal standards and security policies.
• Track and document dependencies, licenses, and support agreements for 3PPs.

• Ensure configuration practices comply with ITIL, ISO27001, SOC 2, and other relevant standards.
• Support internal and external audits by providing validated configuration data and documentation.
• Monitor configuration drift and implement corrective actions.

• Automate configuration discovery and updates using scripts or integration tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, REST APIs).
• Integrate CMDB with asset management, change management, and monitoring systems.
• Work closely with IT operations, DevOps, security, and vendor management teams.
• Provide support for incident and problem management by supplying accurate configuration data.
• Participate in change advisory boards (CABs) and risk assessments.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, high compliance environment.

• Worked across diverse cultures and geographies.
• Pan Africa multi cultural experience is advantageous.

• 4 year Information Science / Information Technology / Computer Science / Engineering (or related) Degree/Diploma
• Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Certification Foundation or Expert v3 / Managing Professional / Master (Preferred)
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation
• Python Institute - PCEP or PCAP
• BMC Remedy Administrator Certification (if applicable)
• CompTIA Server+ or Linux+ (for infrastructure fundamentals)

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• 4+ years of experience in configuration management, infrastructure engineering, or IT operations.
• Strong experience with CMDB platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, BMC Remedy).
• Familiarity with third party software lifecycle and vendor management.
• Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
• Familiarity with ITIL framework and service management principles.
• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in managing configuration data.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
