Overview

This is an exciting position for a dedicated and inspirational head of Classics who aspires to lead a key department in a top independent school. We are looking for a dynamic, energetic, well qualified and highly committed graduate with a proven track record of teaching Latin, Ancient Greek and Classical Civilisation. We would also welcome applications for the position of full time teacher of Classics; applicants should indicate their preference in their cover letter.

Role and responsibilities

The head of Classics will lead the strong culture of excellent and innovative education in the field at our school, building on our outstanding practices and fostering initiative and commitment from all staff and students involved in the wider Classics provision. They will lead with enthusiasm, effectively communicating their passion for the subject across the school community. The successful candidate will establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, parents, and students, promoting and upholding high standards in the teaching and learning of Classics. This will be achieved in part through working closely with our SEND and T&L departments to promote quality first teaching for all students and foster an inclusive classroom environment where all students feel recognised, valued and represented.

Additionally, the head of Classics postholder will be expected to enhance the department's commitment to collaboration and the exchange of best practices with our partner schools in the City of London. They will work closely with colleagues in the City of London School with whom joint teaching in some A level groups is encouraged.

Encouraging lesson observations as part of continuous improvement, the head of Classics will actively contribute to the development of the entire school community in alignment with the school's overarching goals and mission.

They will enhance collaboration with partner schools, including working with colleagues at the City of London School where joint teaching in some A level groups is encouraged.
