Are you a Sage Pastel expert with a decade of bookkeeping experience? Our client, a well-established construction company is looking for a meticulous and detailed-oriented Bookkeeper to join their professional team and take full ownership of the accounts function through to Trial Balance.

This role is designed for a seasoned finance professional who possesses a deep understanding of full-cycle accounting and the ability to maintain impeccable financial records. The successful candidate will be responsible for the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring all reconciliations are performed with precision and that statutory deadlines are met consistently. This position requires a candidate who can work independently, solve complex ledger discrepancies, and provide reliable financial data to support management decision-making.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the full bookkeeping function up to Trial Balance, ensuring all ledgers are accurate and current.
  • Process and reconcile accounts payable and receivable, specifically managing construction-related supplier accounts.
  • Execute monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and monitor daily cash flow.
  • Manage subcontractor payments, ensuring tax compliance and accurate record-keeping.
  • Prepare and submit statutory returns, including VAT and PAYE, ensuring full compliance with South African tax legislation.
  • Oversee the fixed asset register and process monthly depreciation journals.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts and year-end audit files.
  • Monitor project-specific costs to assist management with budget-to-actual variance analysis.
  • Accurately capture financial data.
Requirements
  • A tertiary financial qualification would be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a dedicated Bookkeeping or Accounting role.
  • Experience as a Bookkeeper within the Construction industry is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Pastel Accounting.
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify and resolve financial discrepancies.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work to tight month-end deadlines.
