Bookkeeper - Retail Group

Location: Muizenburg
Department: Finance Department

About the Role

We are looking for a detail-driven and dependable Bookkeeper to join our Finance Department and support a group of corporate-owned retail stores. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting month-end processes while working closely with the Accountant and Finance Manager. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, has strong reconciliation experience, and thrives in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Record daily financial transactions and maintain the general ledger
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Perform bank reconciliations and supplier reconciliations
  • Capture supplier and rental invoices
  • Process and allocate cash book entries
  • Prepare month-end journals (prepayments, accruals, provisions)
  • Assist with balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations
  • Manage petty cash and expense reimbursements
  • Handle CashPOS payments report and store allocations
  • Perform income statement variance analysis and provide commentary
  • Maintain accurate financial filing systems and databases
  • Support monthly and annual financial closing schedules
  • 2-4 years' experience as a Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant / Accounts Clerk
  • Experience within retail / FMCG / multi-store / multi-unit environments (advantageous)
  • Diploma or Certificate in Bookkeeping, Accounting, or related field (essential)
  • Experience with ICB or equivalent bookkeeping courses (advantageous)
  • Experience with bookkeeping software such as Pastel, Sage, QuickBooks, Xero
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Basic understanding of tax, VAT and compliance
  • Familiarity with POS systems and retail cash management
Minimum Requirements
  • 2-4 years' experience as a Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant / Accounts Clerk
  • Experience within retail / FMCG / multi-store / multi-unit environments (advantageous)

  • Strong reconciliation skills (bank, supplier, debtors, creditors)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Basic understanding of tax, VAT and compliance
  • Familiarity with POS systems and retail cash management
