Job Description

This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer who thrives in a hands on leadership position and enjoys shaping scalable systems from the ground up. As a Backend Tech Lead, you will guide architectural decisions, deliver high impact features, and ensure the reliability and performance of critical backend services. You will work closely with product and engineering teams to define best practices, improve development workflows, and maintain strong operational standards. The role blends technical leadership with active coding, allowing you to influence both strategy and execution. With a focus on performance, security, and maintainability, you will help build systems that scale while mentoring engineers and elevating engineering standards across the team.

Accountabilities
  • Lead backend architecture decisions while maintaining a pragmatic balance between simplicity and scalability.

  • Design, develop, and deliver backend features end to end using modern engineering practices and production ready standards.

  • Strengthen CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins, supporting containerized builds and deployments via Helm on AWS infrastructure.

  • Improve system reliability through observability tools, including monitoring latency and error budgets with CloudWatch and Grafana, and implementing structured logging and tracing where needed.

  • Optimize system performance by refining database indexing, caching strategies, queue throughput, and API response times.

  • Implement lightweight security measures such as rate limiting, IP allowlists, and abuse detection mechanisms.

  • Conduct code reviews, enforce development standards, and maintain strong branching and release management practices.

  • Break down technical initiatives into actionable tasks, provide accurate estimations, and remove blockers for the engineering team.

  • Mentor engineers and promote a culture of accountability, clarity, and high technical standards.

Requirements
  • Proven experience building and maintaining production grade backend systems, including at least 3 years in backend development and 2 years in a technical leadership or ownership role.

  • Strong expertise in .NET and backend architecture design.

  • Experience working with databases and caching technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB.

  • Familiarity with OpenAPI 3, modern CI/CD pipelines, and containerized development workflows.

  • Experience with event driven and asynchronous architectures using tools such as SQS, EventBridge/Lambda, Celery, or similar queuing systems.

  • Hands on knowledge of production operations, including Docker, monitoring tools, incident response, and infrastructure deployments.

  • Solid understanding of security best practices, RBAC models, authentication/session management, and OWASP principles.

  • Ability to document technical decisions clearly, balance engineering trade offs, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.

  • Upper intermediate English proficiency or higher.

  • Fluency in Ukrainian and/or Russian.

  • Additional experience with automation platforms, RPA environments, AI enabled systems, or Python backend frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask is considered a plus.

Benefits
  • Competitive compensation package based on experience and expertise.

  • Opportunity to lead backend architecture and influence technical direction in a high impact environment.

  • Flexible and collaborative work environment with a focus on innovation and engineering excellence.

  • Exposure to modern cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and scalable backend technologies.

  • Professional development opportunities and the ability to mentor and shape engineering culture.

  • Remote work flexibility and a globally distributed team environment.
