Job PurposeAssociate Professor: Develop and lead research in Nursing Sciences; strengthen research capacity through collaborations, mentorships, fundraising, and postgraduate recruitment and supervision; contribute to the Faculty goals in Learning & Teaching, Research, Community Engagement, and Academic Leadership.
Senior Lecturer: The purpose of the job is to lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate students according to set syllabus, to contribute academic leadership in the Department and Faculty. The position will require quality review of the curriculum and implementation, and assessment of programmes offered aligned to policy. The incumbent will ensure the programmes offered meet the Health Professions Council of South Africa requirements, liaise with industry stakeholders, coordinate WIL placements, engage in community service-learning projects, conduct and publish research in the field.
Head of Department: The HOD is to take a leadership role within the Department of Nursing Sciences and provide direction to a team of academics, researchers and support staff. The HOD is responsible for creating an enabling environment for all Nursing programmes offered by the Department and for ensuring that academic staff are registered as professionals with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). The incumbent should have a research record and develop strategies which ensure that post graduate students and academics are enabled to perform research in Nursing Sciences. The HOD will have the responsibility to control the departmental budget, engage with all stakeholders, including professional bodies and employers, and participate in faculty and institutional committees. Overall, the purpose of this position is to ensure that the department is effective in delivering the academic project and maintains high levels of quality and is relevant in a changing environment. In addition to meeting the core academic expectations, the incumbent should manage the department effectively and efficiently, in line with the CPUT policies and procedures including but not limited to (i) academic leadership, (ii) research management; (iii) HR and staff management: (iv) financial management: (v) student management.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience- Relevant Doctoral degree in the field of nursing sciences.
- Qualifications in Nursing Education and Management recognised by SANC.
- Registration as a South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse, midwife and nurse educator.
- At least six (6) years' relevant academic experience at higher education institution.
- Successful graduation of Masters and Doctoral candidates.
- Recipient of research grants and awards.
- Record of research outputs: Publications in peer-reviewed accredited journals; presentation of papers at professional conferences.
- Experience as an external examiner/moderator.
- Experience in curriculum development.
- At least four (4) years' relevant lecturing experience in higher education. The 4 years mentioned above must preferably include 2 years' experience in the Department's specialised field as well as management experience related to the functions of an HOD (i.e., academic management; curriculum development; quality assurance and accreditation processes; financial and HR management in a department).
- Research, publications and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above.
- Successful supervision of Master's and Doctoral students.
- Previous experience in an equivalent or higher level.
- Relevant Doctoral degree in the field of nursing sciences.
- Qualifications in Nursing Education and Management recognised by SANC.
- Registration as a South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse, midwife and nurse educator.
- At least 5 years relevant experience, 3 of which must be as Senior Lecturer or above.
- The five (5) years mentioned above must preferably include 2 years' experience management experience related to the functions of an HOD (i.e. academic management; curriculum development; quality assurance and accreditation processes; financial and HR management in a department).
- Research, publications and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above.
- Successful supervision of Master's and Doctoral students.
- Previous experience in an equivalent or higher level.
