Assistant Headteacher - Hepworth J & I School

Kirklees Council
South African Rand . ZAR 400,000 - 500,000

Job Description

Hepworth J & I School is a happy village primary school in the Holme Valley with a well-established staff team, supportive parents, a dedicated governing body and children who are a joy to teach. Demand for school places here is high due to an ethos which prides itself on high attainment, being an eco-school, outdoor education, pupil well-being and working closely with the community.

This is an exciting time for the school as it is currently making the transition from local authority school to Learning Accord Multi Academy Trust (LAMAT) school; a process that will be completed by the time the new assistant headteacher starts.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding assistant headteacher who will help shape the future of the school, who will fit into the existing staff team but also bring something dynamic and new to our school. This is an exciting opportunity to drive forward teaching and learning, develop SEND provision across school and to experience decision making when the Head is absence.

We require applicants with:

  • Experience of working as part of an SLT
  • A proven track record as an outstanding classroom practitioner who can support colleagues to develop their practice and who can model exemplary lessons
  • Enthusiasm for working as part of a team as well as an ability to work independently
  • Superb interpersonal skills and confidence in communicating with pupils, parents and professionals
  • A hard working, resilient, enthusiastic and committed approach to school life

What we can offer:

  • A supportive governing body
  • A friendly staff team
  • The support of a MAT
  • Training and support with SEND
  • Continuous professional development opportunities to work towards Headship

Expectations of the role:

  • SENDco role (No experience required)
  • Lead the school in the Head's absence (The Head currently works four days a week)
  • 5 days a week teaching commitment in a mixed Y5/6 class
  • Be part of the safeguarding team (deputy DSL)
  • Contribute towards the school development plan and be part of the SLT

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff are subject to an enhanced DBS check. A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.

All candidates are warmly welcomed and encouraged to visit the school. Please contact the school office on to book a visit or if you require further information about the role. Visits to the school will be on the afternoons of Thursday 12th February and Tuesday 24th February. You can also visit the school website at
