Overview

Assistant Construction Manager - Free State, Bloemfontein - Fixed-Term

Based in Bloemfontein, we are a subsidiary of the Raubex Group. We are looking for an Assistant Construction Manager to manage general civil, electrical and mechanical projects within Raubex Infra.

Responsibilities
  • On site management and construction of civil works for roads, buildings, civil, solar PV and/or Wind BoP projects in South Africa, including full responsibility for technical, environmental and safety compliance; cost, quality, programme, integration, stakeholders, suppliers/subcontractors, logistics and security.
  • Manage works and teams in terms of human, material, plant and fuel resources; ensure all contractual requirements are met to achieve deadlines and complete the project on time and within budget.
  • Support the Construction Manager to ensure notifications and supporting documents/records for contractual claims are submitted in compliance with contracts.
  • Oversee monthly measurements of completed and approved works and support the compilation of payment certificates, contractual claims/variations, etc.
  • Develop and implement method statements in collaboration with Quality Officers; manage local labour and specialized Subcontractors.
  • Manage suppliers for quality, quantity and on-time deliveries; maintain quality plans, systems and inspections with supporting staff.
  • Maintain strong administrative practices to ensure company systems and processes are followed; prepare weekly production forecasts and planning; stay conversant with standards, drawings and quality control metrics.
  • Facilitate works inspections with client representatives; ensure compliance to SHEQ regulations and applicable safety and quality obligations; lead teamwork to ensure efficiency and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate leadership, ability to perform under pressure, and strong analytical and problem solving skills; be computer literate (MS Office and Project at Advanced level).
  • Possess a valid Driver's Licence and own reliable transport.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree or National Diploma in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience.
  • Experience in the Renewable Energy and Civil industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction, production and team management, programming and planning.
  • Knowledge and skills in management of resources such as plant, people, materials and fuel.
  • Develop method statements in collaboration with Quality Officers.
  • Demonstrable experience in the management of local labour and specialized Subcontractors.
  • Manage suppliers in terms of quality, quantity and timely deliveries.
  • Manage quality plans, systems and inspections in conjunction with supporting staff.
  • Strong administrative skills to ensure company systems and processes are implemented.
  • Conversant in preparation of weekly production forecasts and planning; familiar with Standards, Drawings and Quality control metrics.
  • Experienced in construction risk management and mitigation.
  • Facilitate works inspections with client representatives.
  • Ensure compliance to all SHEQ regulations and applicable compliance obligations, safety and quality control.
  • Lead and facilitate teamwork to ensure efficiency, profitability and meeting deadlines.
  • Team player with demonstrable leadership qualities and ability to perform under pressure.

Job Specification
  • Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Assistant Construction Manager is accountable for successful on site execution.
  • We require a multiskilled person with strong leadership qualities.
  • Adopt, implement and improve Raubex Infra construction management procedures/processes to minimize project risk and maximize performance and profitability.
  • Motivate and manage the construction team, define and monitor production targets, while ensuring SHEQ compliance.
  • Manage and mitigate construction risks; record keeping and document control.
  • Develop method statements & risk assessments for client approval.
  • Develop and update applicable forecasts (materials, plant, and human resources).
  • Responsible for ensuring construction allowances are achieved and weekly reporting thereof.
  • Assist in managing subcontractors and suppliers; enforce company safety campaigns.
  • Manage drawings as per the Raubex Management System; verify in-field compliance with SHEQ obligations.
  • Ensure archiving of SHEQ project records per Raubex Management System requirements.
  • Carry out other duties within the area of activity as instructed by the Construction Manager.
