ROLE SUMMARY A handyman provides numerous services indoors and outdoors in a variety of areas, including general maintenance and cleaning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and renovations.Job Summary The Akeso Handyman at Netcare Hospitals (Pty) Limited is responsible for performing a variety of general maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing condition of hospital facilities. This role supports the efficient operation of the hospital by promptly addressing maintenance needs. Job Responsibilities Execute routine maintenance tasks such as painting, patching walls, minor plumbing repairs (e.g., fixing leaky faucets, unclogging drains), and basic carpentry work (e.g., repairing doors, replacing hinges). Perform minor electrical repairs, including changing light bulbs, replacing faulty outlets, and troubleshooting simple electrical issues under supervision where necessary. Conduct preventative maintenance checks on equipment and facilities, identifying and reporting potential issues to management. Assemble and install furniture, fixtures, and equipment as required. Respond promptly to maintenance requests from hospital staff and patients, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of tools and materials. Assist with the moving of equipment, furniture, and supplies within the hospital premises. Adhere to all safety regulations, hospital policies, and procedures, including infection control protocols. Report any major maintenance issues or hazards to the appropriate supervisor or department. Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively. Job Qualifications Grade 10 or equivalent vocational qualification. Proven experience as a Handyman or in a similar maintenance role, preferably within a healthcare or institutional setting. Sound knowledge of general maintenance practices, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting skills. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor maintenance issues independently. Good physical condition, capable of lifting heavy objects, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff and patients. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver's license may be required depending on hospital location and need for off-site travel.
