Payroll Consultant

Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Payroll Consultant to join our Shared Services HR function. The successful candidate will work closely with the Group Payroll and Remuneration Manager and will be responsible for supporting and coordinating payroll operations across multiple business properties nationally, including Botswana operations.
This role requires a senior payroll professional with strong technical payroll expertise, exceptional legislative knowledge, and the ability to operate within a complex, high-volume, multi-site environment.
Qualifications- Diploma or Degree in Payroll, Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Minimum 5-8 years' senior payroll experience within a large, multi-site or shared services environment.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- South African payroll legislation
- SARS regulations and tax principles
- BCEA and employment legislation
- Payroll governance and compliance
- Experience working with:
- SAP/HCM and SAP SuccessFactors
- Strong payroll reconciliation and reporting experience.
- Exposure to remuneration and benefits administration.
- Previous HR administration or generalist HR exposure is essential.
- Experience processing or supporting cross-border payrolls (Botswana exposure advantageous).
- Advanced Excel and payroll reporting skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
- Support the end-to-end payroll function within a centralised shared services environment.
- Ensure accurate and timeous payroll processing for multiple business units across South Africa and Botswana.
- Work closely with the Group Payroll and Remuneration Manager on payroll governance, reporting, reconciliations, and compliance.
- Maintain payroll integrity and ensure all payroll transactions comply with statutory and company requirements.
- Administer payroll accounting interfaces and reconciliations between payroll and finance systems.
- Assist with payroll audits, tax submissions, COIDA submissions and legislative reporting requirements.

- South African tax legislation
- Labour legislation and employment related regulations
- Statutory payroll requirements
- Manage payroll queries and provide expert payroll support to management and employees.
- Support remuneration and benefits administration processes.
- Maintain employee payroll records and ensure data accuracy within HR and payroll systems.
- Liaise with Finance, HR Business Partners, and operational management across all properties.
- Assist with process improvements, payroll controls, and system optimisation initiatives.
- Support month end and year end payroll processes, reconciliations, and reporting.
